I love the tradition of handing out cigars at the birth of a baby. It just seems very “proper” to me, and even if you don’t want to purchase the real deal, the bubble gum and chocolate versions can be quite charming as well. I used the cigars as an opportunity to announce Vivi’s name and arrival to hospital guests. This turned out quite handy, since the little cards tied on to each cigar had the reasoning for our name choice, as well as the spelling, which left little repetitive explaining for us tired (and excited) new parents to have to do. Plus, I think it made a sweet keepsake for our thoughtful guests (and a cute little tag for Chip to attach to Vivi for a photograph to send out via text message annoncements!).
