A Treehouse in the Pines - Inspiration for a Rustic Retreat for Kids
If you follow along on instagram, hopefully you saw the reveal of the treehouse my dad built on the Crate and Kids blog. I'm so excited about how this project came together, and wanted to post a little more about it here.

We worked with my dad to design a treehouse; he specified the footprint, and we went from there. It's a really fun design, with a bridge between two platforms; the treehouse is built on the first and the second is open for playing. The whole thing is 12' off the ground!

Above is a photo of the exterior. We used Trex decking for the stair treads and the platform, as it stands up so well to weather. It won't splinter or rot, and kids can walk on it barefoot without worrying about splinters! We also used Trex on the girls' playhouse, and it has worked out great.
This pic shows a little better the entire deck behind the treehouse. The other deck is such a fun spot for impromptu picnics or observation/spying, which is something my girls are super into.
All of the interior walls and trim are painted White Heron by Benjamin Moore. It's a really bright white that is perfect in this sunny space. The front door is Benjamin Moore Arctic Blue, and I love it so much!
The exterior boards of the treehouse, the floors inside, the ceilings (see that blue peeking out on the ceiling above?), the front door and screen door, the windows, and the interior plank walls are all from my great-great-grandparents' home, so this place is full of history, even though it's brand new!
The girls are both crazy about this desk! It's the cutest camp headquarters ever.

I hung an old letterpress drawer above the craft table, as a spot to stash treasures and special finds. It's a fun and easy way to display all those little things that find their way inside via tiny pockets and hands.
I love the vintage style army cots upstairs, which will make for the perfect spot to spend the night or read.

Those sheets are my fave, too. I kind of want to steal them for my bed, except they won't exactly fit. I love the graphic pop!
These cross pillows are a DIY from awhile back - they are just felt sewn onto velveteen pillows I made, but they make such a fun statement. I can't stop using them everywhere.
I really love that Jenny Lind bookcase for stashing toys and books. And how fun are the vintage kid lawn chairs? Can someone please start making them again? I think they are the cutest.

There are going to be so many good memories made here!
I'm so grateful we were able to work with Crate & Kids on this space! It turned out so perfectly - let me know if you have any questions about it!
