first birthday ice cream party
for my nephew
This past weekend, we got to celebrate my little nephew, Henry, and his first birthday. My sister, Ashley, wanted to do an ice cream party (especially fitting since the party day was national ice cream day - inspiration board here!). She has a very classic style, so we went with true blue, stripes, and ice cream. It was perfectly casual, and such a fun time. For the food table, we made a quick little chalkboard menu with MDF board and chalkboard paint. We drilled holes in the corner, and knotted rope to hang it with. I painted his little silhouette on the top in gold.
We used these gorgeous cake stands from Minted to display desserts, and this apothecary jar to hold little cards where the guests wrote notes to Henry, which will be saved for him to read when he is older.
I love these ice cream sandwiches rolled in sprinkles (thanks Pinterest!) - such a fun pop of color, and I adore these sweet bowtie napkins from Meri Meri.
We kept the menu really simple, with chocolate chip cookies, brownies, ice cream sandwiches, a couple of Henry's favorite toddler treats, and of course, ice cream. It's much easier to keep the food simple, and just make it look pretty.
For the ice cream table, we hung up these tablecloths to define the space a little, and Ashley had one of her favorite babysitters and her friend help serve ice cream (so smart!). We also had little jars of bubbles to keep the kids entertained when they weren't eating ice cream.
As a special treat for drinks, Ashley bought glass bottled (mexican - yummy!!!) Cokes and lemonade. We hung up Henry's monthly photos with clothespins for guests to admire.
And here is a picture of the precious little guy enjoying his first taste of cake! Ashley borrowed a sweet wooden high chair from a friend.
Happy birthday, squishy Henry! Love you so!!
