Playing Doctor with Parker
Seedling's new teddy bear
I have been a fan of Seedling since they launched. I love the lo-fi, creative mindset behind the brand, and we have enjoyed doing quite a few of their crafts and projects together. When they approached me about trying out Parker, their new little augmented reality teddy bear, I was really interested.
My girls don't have much screen time at all, but I was interested in trying something different. Brigie does watch a show every afternoon while Ellie naps, so I thought this could be a good alternative. It's right up her alley; she is my cuddler and nurturer, and she is always playing doctor for her dolls and animals and setting up little hospital beds for them.
Parker is a cuddly little bear that comes with his little backpack, a toy thermometer, a toy stethoscope, a wooden medicine bottle and spoon, an x-ray bib, and a special letter from him. You then download the Parker app, and you can take care of little Parker and diagnose what might be ailing him.
Brigie is four, and I think this toy is just right for her age. The problems and games are just the right level of difficulty for her, and she loved checking on Parker's bones, giving him his medicine, and finding other ways to take care of him. As you help him get better, his happiness level increases, and you are able to do more in the app.
It was fun watching Brigie play doctor to Parker, and I also love that he and his accessories are just as fun with or without the iPad, so kids can enjoy playing with him anytime.
I love that Seedling is thinking outside the box to use technology to increase empathy and problem solving skills in little ones, and that the magic of this toy is not just limited to a screen. I think when we can teach our kids how to use technology for good (not just entertainment), and show them how it can help others, it's a big win. Brigie loves little Parker, and has had him by her side non-stop!
Parker would definitely be fun to add to the Christmas list!
Thanks so much to Seedling for sponsoring this post, and encouraging creativity!
