how to scan photos and pictures to print them in large format
I frequently get questions about how to properly scan photos, drawings, old pictures, postcards, etc. in order to print them large format. It's such a fun and easy way to create custom art meaningful to you, and usually quite affordable, as well! Above is a huge (40" x 40") print I had made of a drawing Vivi created. I still have to frame it, but can't wait to have it finished out and hung.
It's really pretty simple. Just scan your image in at least 600 dpi. This printer/scanner is the new version of the one we have, and it's super handy, and also scans at an even higher 1200 dpi, which is awesome. The above print was created from a small 6" x 9" photo! If you plan to use Framebridge or Parabo Press, both of which I love, then you can just upload the photo/art and they will let you know what size options you have, but you may want to use Photoshop Elements or some other simple editing software to resize it to the size you want if you plan to print it via Staples or some other store.
(more about the above photo here, and download it here for free to print yourself!)
So, that is it! Easy peasy. One thing to note is that they will print precisely as they look small. So, if you use photos that are older and slightly blurry or grainy, the large scale version will look blurry and grainy. Honestly, though, I think those imperfections and results of time make it a work of art. It's just something to remember.

Hope that is helpful to any of you trying to attempt this!
