getting the kids to sleep

pink girl room ideas

I think I mentioned this on instagram recently, but a few weeks ago Brigette was seized with a sudden and intense fear of snakes.  There were a couple of circumstances which I believe led to this, but I was a little surprised at how very intense it was for her.  She was waking several times a night (normally she is an excellent sleeper!), asking to get in our bed, and also not wanting to go to sleep because of her fears.  I had to do something to help, and came up with a little plan.

Brigie is a (stuffed) animal lover and usually sleeps with about twenty of them.  I figured if I could make a snake cute enough to sleep with, that would be a step in the right direction.  I made the mama snake first, and then of course babies were requested, with bows.  I told her that she is a sweet snake and that she will scare away any "bite-y" snakes that frighten Brigie in her imagination at night.  This really seemed to alleviate her fears.

night light

Next, we got a nightlight (can you believe it's that cute pineapple up there?).  That also really helped.  It's not necessary every night, but it's so helpful if she wakes up with a bad dream, or just feels like she needs it at times.  It's also great for rest time during the day; the room doesn't have to be completely dark, and it gives off such a sweet glow!  I'm pretty smitten with it, and this Goodnight Light also comes in several colors (and other fun shapes, too!).  Brigie calls it the "pinecone" and requests it when she needs it.

We also upgraded our sound machine.  We have been using one since Vivi was born and it's kind of a necessity in this smaller, creaky house, and it has really soothed all our babies!  We formerly used a large-ish black Bose speaker and old iPhone with a sound machine app, which worked well enough, but it was very bulky on the dresser, very difficult to travel with, and I also didn't like having an iPhone in the girls room.  This little beauty is tiny, well designed, has several different sound options, and you can also get a little carrying case, so it's super easy to take to the grandparents for a weekend.  It was such a nice change, because I could also add the nightlight without things feeling too cluttered!  I can't recommend this little thing enough, and also have one in Ellie's room as well!

See, I took the Lectro Fan with us to the farm, and the other Goodnight Light (which will be living somewhere really fun that I can't wait to share soon!).  Hope that helps if any of you are looking for a good sound machine or nightlight!  Or if any of you have a little people with a fear of snakes!
