(First, thanks to Donaville of Dearest Nature, who featured a a little tour of our house today. Check it out here if you wish!)
This post is for those of you who aren’t into geek chic nurseries. I have received several requests from those of you trying to appease sports minded men, so I hope this will be of some help. If you are trying to feature a specific team, try to find vintage programs, photos, and pennants, rather than current items. It will lend the room much more character, and I was able to find a ton of options for lots of teams with a google search. Etsy, ebay, and all posters all have great options available, and the covers for some of these old programs are really great. Scanning in photos of your husband or other family members in their uniform and printing them out large in black and white would make really sweet custom touches. If you are trying to highlight the colors of a certain team, maybe try to bring them out in places other than artwork or posters, such as stadium blankets, striped fabric, or even on a refinished dresser for a fun pop!
I keep getting emails from some of you who are struggling to compromise with daddies who insist on certain themes, so here is my take on a happy solution for a Star Wars nursery (or toddler room!). It has just the right amount of humor but limits the cheese. This room is great for a girl or boy room, and would even look fantastic on – dare I say it? – a light pink. A fun project would be fun to find vintage Star Wars fabric or sheets to make floor pillows.
I recently got an email from Ashley, who is the mother of 26 month old triplets, Gianni, Tanner, and Ella (so cute!). As they have begun to climb out of their cribs, Ashley has decided it’s time to upgrade to a more toddler/child appropriate room. She wants them to stay together for a little while longer, and then Ella will have her room when she is a bit older. She said the walls are coffee bean (see board on a coffee bean color below – I just thought the neutral gray was really nice option, too!) and the only direction she had in mind was adventure – because life with three little ones is always an adventure (I can only imagine)! I’d recommend putting artwork or details around each bed to reflect different personalities (such as a few girly but not too frilly items for Ella that can go with her when she gets her own room) in order to show some individuality without taking away from the cohesiveness of the entire room. Also – I think that photo of the three children on the horse is adorable. Might be fun to take some “adventure photos” of these little musketeers and print them in black and white to put up here and there!
