toddler pronoun (mis)usage

(The winner of The Purple Rose diaper bag giveaway is Morgan Hatch!  Congratulations, Morgan!  If you want to purchase one for yourself, you can get a 15% off coupon for orders of $100 or more if you sign up for their mailing list.)Vivi is pretty great at communicating, but one adorable difficulty she has is pronouns, which I know is common across many toddlers.  It sort of melts me every time she uses them incorrectly, and I have had to tell Chip not to correct her, especially on the “hold you” request, because I know she’ll learn it quickly enough, and it’s too sweet to make her change it early!  Do you have any favorite vocabulary “misusage” with your little ones?

This is so cute! My little guy says “boppin” for button and “boppit” for bucket 🙂

  2. Coryann says:

    Not yet but, soon!

  3. “I sorry” when she falls down or bumps her head. Makes me laugh every time!

I always think that the pronoun mix-ups are sweet and hilarious, especially “Hold you?” It becomes less hilarious when they only use “he/him” instead of “she/her” . . . especially in situations where my little boy is referring to an older person who could probably be mistaken for one or the other! 🙂

“Hold you!” is my favorite, too! My daughter, Olive, will be 2 next month. I told my husband to let her say it that way, because it is too stinking cute. My other favorite is “Mama nuggle” for when she needs a good couch snuggle.

Well my little girl, who is the same age as Vivi btw, just started saying ‘that’s mines’ this week. Yay?

  8. My son did that exact same thing “hold you”. I think they pick it up naturally from us adults asking the kiddos if they need us to hold them. He got over that one, and now that he just turned 4 he is currently confused with the word “our”. Right now everything is “our” is going to the store, etc. Hope he gets over that one!

  9. Mallory’s little girl, Beau is guilty of the “Hold you!” It’s adorable and I love it each and every time she asks me to “Hold you!” I can’t help but comply! 🙂

  10. My 2 year old says, “I wanna hold you” :0)

  11. Those are three of Layla’s too and I absolutely love them!
