vivi's recipe

for an excellent time in the kitchen

This month, Vivi's favorite things are not actually her toys.  Since she has started crawling and exploring, she has taken an interest to anything and everything she can get her little hands on.  The kitchen is now one of her favorite play spots and after a few days of dragging everything out of all the cabinets with me chasing after her making sure she didn't grab anything that wasn't "Vivi friendly", I designated one cabinet just for her, and filled it with most of my kitchen items that are "Vivi safe" (after cleaning out the other cabinets, of course - you never know what she'll get into!). Above is her choice assortment.  She has acquired several of my favorite storage and mixing bowls, among other things, so I often have to borrow from her collection.  She seems pretty ok with the arrangement, though.  The jelly jars formerly resided in the bottom shelf of the refrigerator.  I think they were a gift, as we have about eight of them, and we forgot we had them until they became a favorite treat every time I opened the refrigerator door.  She got a great deal of delight from pulling them all out, and finally I just put them all into her cabinet since we weren't using them anyway.  She loves to put them all into the large bowls, take them out again, stack them in the cabinet, and do it all over again.  The shaker is a brilliant idea borrowed from her Nana.  We were visiting last weekend, and she made shakers with some jars and rice.  I put some dried black eyed peas in an oregano jar, and she loves it!   That casserole pan is also a fun item - it makes extra fun noises whenever anything is thrown onto it.  She can get quite loud, but I don't mind as long as she is entertained while I am cooking!
