Recently I posted our new patio with the Home Depot, and I promised some details on the beaded tassel plumb bob hangings.  It was a fun and easy project, and would be just as perfect on a wall in the house as it is outside.  The tassels add just the right punch of color, and you can use whatever colors suit your decor.

(And in case you haven't heard of a plumb bob, you can find them at Home Depot.  It's a pretty neat little instrument, used as a vertical reference line.  They have been around for quite awhile, here is a little info about it.  I just thought the brass was so lovely!)

Above are all the items needed (plus some scissors).  I found that the chunkier yarn pictured above worked really well.  I found it at Jo-Ann fabrics, and it has metallic thread woven throughout, which makes it extra fun.  Cut a piece of cardboard to use for making the tassels (I liked the shorter, thicker tassels, so I went with a 3.5" x 6" piece, but you can certainly go longer).  All those brass fittings are from the plumbing department at Home Depot.  Just walk down the aisle and grab what looks interesting!  The smaller pieces are my favorite, because they make a better break with the wooden beads.  I found the beads at Michael's, and as mentioned above, the plumb bob at Home Depot.

Then, you can just tie the plumb bob to the end with some embroidery floss/thread.  They are really heavy and pointy on the end, so be sure they are securely attached (or you don't have to have them on the end - it just adds a bit of interest!).  Pretty easy, right?  I love the little chunky tassels.  I was going to make pom poms, but it seemed too complicated, and these have just as much personality!
