stylish summer essentials for every mom

summer must haves

Recently, I got to meet up with the adorable Lauren Lefevre, a fellow Atlantan mom (she four year old twins!).  She has quite the knack for style and shares her favorites via her instagram and her blog and also through her wardrobe consulting business, Edit by Lauren.  She has collaborated with Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Old Navy, Free People, and Lilly Pulitzer, so she definitely knows what she is talking about.  She is such a warm and inspiring person, and I'm excited to be working up some collaborations with her since I have found that style is somewhat of a challenge for me since becoming a mother.  For starters, it seems my body is always changing; barely pregnant, pregnant, post pregnant, not quite where I want to be, finally lost the baby weight, and then pregnant and going through it all again.  Before I know it, a couple of seasons have passed before I can really do the shopping you want, and when that happens (like now), I find myself not really certain what feels like me anymore.  Do you ever feel that way?  Anyway, I asked Lauren to share some of her top picks for summer wardrobe essentials for moms, and I love what she chose.

Summer is {finally} here! Maybe not officially, but it sure is beginning to feel like it here in Georgia!

As a mom of four-year-old twins, I know that fuss-free dressing is a must for busy, on-the-go summer days. My “summer essential list” is made up of ten classic summer pieces that almost any age and body-type can wear. If you have these essentials in your closet, you’ll immediatly improve your ability to mix and match your wardrobe to create endless stylish looks and have ready-to-go options to pack for travel. My style philosophy is simple :: less is more {you really need less items than you think you do!}, love what you have {purge anything that doesn't make you feel fabulous} and have fun pairing your pieces together in new ways!

(1) A neutral sandal :: Every woman needs a great neutral flat and wedge-heeled sandal for summer. By neutral I mean anywhere in the the nude to cognac-brown family, or a metallic. This color scheme pairs with black, white, navy and every other color, and makes packing a cinch!

(2) A cross-body bag :: Who has time to switch purses all the time during summer?! A cross-body necessity for hands-free comfort for errand running and long days on-the-go, and makes a perfect travel bag, too!

(3) Cute kicks :: I’m a new-covert to wearing sneakers outside of the gym, and now I wonder why it took me so long! I am loving wearing tennis shoes with casual dresses, skirts and shorts and there are so many adorable pairs out this season. They can be as cute as they are comfortable!

(4) A peasant-style top :: A pretty, lacy top is a classic summer must-have. This blouse is feminine and functional, pairing with denim, colors, prints and patterns. Depending on the shape and style, a peasent blouse can be worn untucked with jeans or shorts and/or tucked into a skirt. I love how colorful accessories “pop” off this style blouse, and how it wears effortlessly from day to night, making it a perfect travel piece.

(5) Something chambray :: Like denim, chambray pairs with just about everything. Light to medium shades of chambray are trending this season, and are the easy answer to what to pair with bright colors, pattern and even whites. Look for a chambray shirt, dress or romper in a soft, light-weight material.

(6) Cuffed denim shorts :: Denim shorts made a comeback a few season’s back and are around to stay. It’s easy to understand why, since, like a trusty pair of jeans, they go with everything! Pair with a tee or tank and flat sandals or sneaks for day and with a blouse and wedges for evening. (Also love these!)

(7) Printed bottoms :: Fun, bright-colored patterned shorts and skirts are trending again this season, and make it easy to create a fun outfit with little effort. Pair a printed bottom with a solid tee or tank for day, and transition these shorts or skirts into evening with a blouse or light jacket.

(8) A pop of turquoise :: Turquoise is the most universal color for summer accessories. It pops off black, navy and white, as well as all other bright colors. A pair of turquoise statement earrings and a turquoise necklace can mix-and-match with everything in your wardrobe, to give any outfit a stylish boost.

(9) Easy-to-wear dress :: A comfy, breezy dress is the answer to any "what do I wear" question during summer! Shop for dresses that can take you from day to night and can be worn with either flats or a heel and paired with different accessories. This kind of dress also makes a perfect travel-companion. (Also love this one!)

(10) Striped tee (not pictured) :: Every woman needs a great-fitting striped top. It's effortlessly stylish and always classic. Pair with white, denim or virtually any color bottoms, including pants, shorts and skirts.

Thanks so much to Lauren for sharing her expertise!  You can find her on instagram, Facebook, and her blog (check out my post over there today on summer entertaining must haves)!  And, here is a picture of her - isn't she adorable (and seriously, I want to know what her leg workout is . . . )?
